The Juggler – Volume 11

Lara recently met with leading nutritionists and obesity experts during a visit to her alma mater at Cornell University and one of the findings that they shared was that just an extra 15 calories a day in our diet during the past 20 years has also contributed to the obesity crisis we’re facing today (see more below about obesity in the news too).  It was a shocking reminder why it’s important to make the most of one’s calories so that they’re truly satisfying.  While at Cornell Lara also met with the girls of Camp $tart-Up for Girls, a non-profit that LightFull has supported through our charitable donations.  It was truly inspiring to meet such bright young girls, and a wonderful reminder about why we started LightFull – to both offer satisfying foods and build a better community.

In good health,

Lara and Lynn

Check out the July issue of Entrepreneur magazine, where LightFull’s own CEO Lara Jackle and Board Member Ilya Nykin are interviewed in the article “Perfect Match.”  The buzz on LightFull being named as one of 25 “Best New Foods for You” in Prevention magazine is still going strong… we were featured on WNBC’s Today in New York and the CW Morning News in New York City!  LightFull also received positive reviews on KPEK-FM in Albuquerque; in The Repository of Canton, OH; Dallas’ LOOKS magazine and in Supermarket Savvy, a newsletter for dietitians.

Health News Update:  Obesity

At LightFull Foods, we’re committed to build a healthy community based on support and inspiration. After all, our vision is to have a nation of healthy families who actually enjoy eating healthy foods. So we were dismayed to see a recent report from Johns Hopkins University that in 2015 we’ll be a nation where 75 percent of adults will be overweight and 41 percent obese. Another recent study out of the University of California, San Diego and Harvard found that one’s social network can play a big role in obesity – a person's chance of becoming obese increases by 57 percent if he or she has a friend who became obese, 40 percent if a sibling became obese and 37 percent if a spouse became obese. But there’s good news too, the study shows that being healthy can be contagious too! Stay tuned for more from LightFull on how to build your own healthy community…
